Provincial ADHD Program
The Provincial ADHD Program, operated by Health PEI, provides comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, and treatment services for adults with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) across the province. Our multidisciplinary team of health care professionals offers evidence-based interventions to support individuals in managing ADHD symptoms and improving daily functioning.
Services provided:
- Comprehensive ADHD assessments
- Diagnosis and treatment planning tailored to individual needs
- Medication management in collaboration with health care providers
- Psychosocial support and therapy for individuals and families
- Education and resources on ADHD, and strategies for self-management
Who can access this service?
- Individuals aged 16+ experiencing symptoms of ADHD who are seeking formal diagnosis or treatment options
- Individuals who have been diagnosed with ADHD and are having their medications managed but looking for support and educational resources
How do I access this service?
Individuals can be referred by their primary care provider (physician, nurse practitioner), psychologist, social worker or other health care clinician. Clients without a primary care provider may visit a Community Mental Health and Addictions location to speak to a healthcare clinician for assessment and possible referral to the Provincial ADHD Program.
Please note, the Provincial ADHD Program does not accept referrals solely for medication refills. If you do not have a primary care provider and require medication changes, you may be required to be reassessed which may result in the ADHD diagnosis not being reconfirmed.
What can I expect?
All referrals are triaged into varying severity levels and clients may be offered an appointment dependent on their triage level. Clients must be prepared to provide at least one source of childhood collateral from before the age of 12 (this may include a family member, family friend, report cards, psychoeducation assessments, etc.). If clients are unable to provide this collateral, the Provincial ADHD Program cannot complete an ADHD assessment and diagnosis.
Clients may speak to their primary care provider for a provisional diagnosis if unable to be assessed through the Program. Private psychologists or other fee for service programs can also be accessed for assessment and diagnosis. If you have been diagnosed and are having your medications managed elsewhere, you can still be referred for services from the interdisciplinary care team such as psychoeducation, CBT-based coaching, targeted psychotherapy, occupational therapy, etc.
