Programs and Services Available to Public Service Employees

Employee Assistance Program

EAP is a brief, solution-focused counselling program with the purpose of providing support, psychoeducation, and skills for employees experiencing challenges either at work or at home.  If you are an employee or a retired employee of the Government of PEI, you are eligible for EAP short-term services.  Your immediate family, including spouse and children aged 16-24 who reside with you are also eligible.

French Language Services

French Language Services offers courses at beginner, intermediate and advanced levels. The training is available to classified and casual civil service employees, including employees of the health sector.

Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Cultural Competency Training

The PEI Public Service Commission developed a series of equity, diversity, inclusion awareness and cultural competency training workshops and courses for public sector employees to meet the needs of an increasing awareness and understanding of diverse workforce and population demographics that are becoming increasingly diverse on the Island. These training programs are intended to increase the understanding of diversity by identifying and clarifying definitions of diversity related key terms and topics such as equity, inclusion, unconscious bias, inclusive communication, anti-black racism, gender identity and use of pronouns, human rights and strategies to foster respectful and welcoming workplaces. There are nine (9) training modules currently available, with all nine (9) modules developed for PEI Public Service managers and employees.

Occupational Health and Safety

The Employee Wellness & Safety section of the Public Service Commission strives to maintain a workplace that is safe and healthy for all employees. The primary goal is to prevent employee injury and illness, and to promote employee health.

Development and Training Fund

The purpose of the Development and Training Fund is to provide employees with opportunities to continue learning and developing their skills.  Eligible government employee who initiates a learning opportunity that will enhance their current job skills or potential future responsibilities relevant to providing excellence in the public service may apply to the Development and Training Fund for up to $2,500 per fiscal year.

Career Planning and Learning Plan

Career planning is the important process of determining the ideal career for you and figuring out how to turn it into reality, which is not always a linear process. Employees can use career planning tools to identify their interests, beliefs, values, skills, and competencies to help make the most of their talent and potential in the public service. They may also identify personal career goals and ways to achieve those goals.
