Applications being accepted for arts grants

Prince Edward Island artists are invited to apply for the fall 2017 round of arts grants, like the one artist Margot Rejskind received earlier this year.

One of 13 grants awarded last spring enabled Rejskind to focus on getting her professional choir Luminos Ensemble up and running.  Artists can apply for funding at princeedwardisland.ca/artsgrants by October 25 for three types of grants: creation, dissemination, and professional development.

“After one very successful concert, I was committed to putting together a full season but was struggling to find the time to do the work and research required,” Rejskind said. “My artist grant made it possible for me to take on less paid work, so that I can focus on this project. Without it, the progress of Luminos Ensemble would have been slowed by years, if it would have happened at all.”

Successful applicants are selected by a six-member jury of their arts community peers. A total of $50,000 is available in this round of funding.

“It’s incredible to see the impact these grants have made not only in artists’ lives but on the cultural life of our province,” Education, Early Learning and Culture Minister Doug Currie said. “These Islanders have been able to turn their dreams into reality and enrich the entire province with their work, which is why our government continues to see culture as a top priority.”
