Emergency Preparedness Week 2023

Emergency Preparedness Week begins on May 7 and will give Islanders the opportunity to be better prepared for natural events and other emergencies.

Emergency Preparedness Week (May 7 to May 13) is a national campaign that focuses on residents becoming more informed on what to do during an emergency, and aims to further educate residents on proactive planning to be more prepared in the event of an emergency.

“We are all very familiar with the extreme events over the past few years that have given us a stark reminder of just how important it is to plan ahead for emergencies. Emergencies can happen anywhere and at any time. Emergency Preparedness Week is a great opportunity for Islanders to learn helpful tips, participate in educational events, and take the few simple steps to ensure that you are prepared for an emergency.”

-  Deputy Premier, Justice and Public Safety Minister and Attorney General Bloyce Thompson

Emergency Preparedness Week 2023 encourages everyone to: Be Prepared. Know Your Risks. Throughout the week, the Province will be hosting emergency preparedness presentations open to members of the public at the following:

  • Tuesday May 9, 1:00pm - 3:00pm – Summerside Credit Union Place (511 Notre Dame Street, Summerside PE)
  • Thursday May 11, 1:00pm - 3:00pm  – Charlottetown Library Learning Centre (100-97 Queen Street, Charlottetown PE)

Both events will include a public presentation, static display of a personal emergency preparedness kit and various door prizes, including an emergency radio.

Islanders following Government of PEI (@InfoPEI) and PEI Public Safety pages on Facebook and Twitter can find helpful tips throughout the week and enter to win prizes from the PEI Emergency Measures Organization.
