A former Health PEI board member, Revell is a member of the P.E.I. Law Society and Canadian Bar Association. He is currently the chief executive officer of the Insurance Company of Prince Edward Island.

“I am delighted that Mr. Jim Revell, a former Health PEI board member and community leader, has accepted the invitation to be trustee for the health authority,” said Health and Wellness Minister Robert Mitchell. “His expertise, along with his experience, will be of great benefit to the health care system.”

Providing leadership in the area of health and wellness is not new to Jim, nor to his family. While on the Health PEI board he served on the Executive and Audit Committee. In addition, Jim’s late father John Joseph Revell was the last chairman of the Charlottetown Hospital Board and was vice chair of the founding board of directors of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

“I see my job as ensuring stability within our health system as we continue to work towards providing safe, quality health care for all Islanders,” Revell said. “I have great confidence in our health system and its many outstanding employees. Health PEI is committed to working in partnership with all Islanders, and sustaining a system that will meet their health care needs.”

The trustee is intended to be a temporary position until a new board can be established.

“There is great value in a board of directors for Health PEI, and we are now accepting applications for anyone interested in putting their name forward for consideration,” Minister Mitchell said. “The Health PEI Board of Directors has an important role in accountability within our health system. Board members create linkages to the community and oversees the day-to-day operation of our health care system.”

Islanders with the skill, knowledge and experience necessary to serve on the Health PEI board are encouraged to put their names forward for consideration through Engage PEI www.princeedwardisland.ca/engagepei

Appointing a trustee
The Health Services Act outlines an important and meaningful role for Health PEI and its board of directors. The act also allows for the appointment of a trustee to fulfill the duties of the board when necessary.

The Health PEI Board works on behalf of all Islanders to provide high-level oversight of the organization’s financial management as well as the delivery of safe, quality health care.

It is intended that the trustee will be a temporary appointment, as the province seeks out applicants with the skill, knowledge and experience necessary to serve on the Board of Directors for Health PEI.
