New policy to strengthen diversity and inclusion in the provincial public service

Celebrating the 2019 International Human Rights Day, the Government of Prince Edward Island is pleased to announce its new Diversity and Inclusion Policy that supports creating an inclusive and welcoming workplace by recognizing and acknowledging the value of diversity and inclusion and of being reflective of our diverse population.

The new Diversity and Inclusion Policy represents government’s commitment to fostering an inclusive workplace culture that values and respects the diversity of its employees and clients ensuring fair and equitable treatment of all people by respecting their diverse social and cultural identities.

“Our Province is becoming increasingly diverse, and we all share the responsibility of ensuring diversity and inclusion in our public service while ensuring our services meet the diverse needs of our Island population. We want to honour the various social and cultural identities and create a better public service in the interest of all Islanders.”

The Diversity and Inclusion Policy has been informed by evidenced-based information including consultations with external organizations, internal stakeholders, and interjurisdictional work in this area.
