Online child care subsidy calculator provides easy access to information

Islanders now have access to quick, online information about their qualification for help with early learning and child care costs.

A bilingual Child Care Subsidy Calculator has been created, to help families determine their eligibility for the child care subsidy program and get an estimate of the portion of child care costs, if any, they would pay out of pocket. Islanders can do this by entering information about their family size and income taken from their income tax forms.

“This online calculator makes it easier for Islanders to get their personalized financial benefit information and we know that’s really important based on what we’ve heard from them. We will continue to review our programs and services to ensure they are meeting the needs of Islanders first and foremost.”

- Social Development and Housing Minister Ernie Hudson

The province’s child care subsidy program helps Island families with the cost of child care and daycare services for children 12 years of age and younger. Assistance is available for Islanders who are working, attending school or at home - depending on your situation and income level.  The program is flexible and offers a range of options for support.  In 2018-19, over 1800 Island children were supported through the program.

“Every child deserves to have a proper start in life but child care costs can be a major barrier for families and many simply cannot afford it,” said Minister Hudson. “We want to ensure all children can benefit from high-quality early learning and child care by taking steps to make it more affordable for Islanders.”
