Premier launches 2017 Rendez-vous de la Francophonie in PEI

Premier Wade MacLauchlan, Minister Responsible for Acadian and Francophone Affairs, launches the 2017 Rendez-vous de la Francophonie with Jesse Francis, secretary/treasurer of the Société Saint-Thomas-d'Aquin.

The Rendez-vous de la Francophonie is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the Canadian Francophonie by participating in a wide range of activities in French, said Premier Wade MacLauchlan, Minister Responsible for Acadian and Francophone Affairs.

"By taking part in the festivities, Islanders can contribute to the promotion of the French language and its many cultural expressions,” added the Premier. The Rendez-vous de la Francophonie highlights the vitality and uniqueness of Prince Edward Island's Acadian and Francophone community.

The 19th edition of the Rendez-vous de la Francophonie will be held from March 2nd to March 22, 2017 under the national theme La Francophonie en 3D : Diversité, Dualité, Dynamisme! (La Francophonie in 3D:  Diversity, Duality, Dynamism!)

The many activities organized across the province will allow Islanders to take part in multicultural gatherings, concerts, songs, word games, educational activities, contests and films.

The official opening ceremony and reception of the Rendez-vous de la Francophonie will take place at Government House in Charlottetown on Thursday, March 2 at 10:30 a.m., with Lieutenant Governor H. Frank Lewis and event organizers in attendance. From that day on, the Acadian flag will fly at Province House for the duration of the celebrations.
