Statement by Premier King on International Women’s Day

Hon. Dennis King, Premier of Prince Edward Island issued the following statement recognizing International Women’s Day:

“Today – March 8, 2021 – is International Women’s Day, a time to celebrate women's achievements, raise awareness against biases, and take action for equality.

“We all have women in our lives who inspire us. Across our province, we are so fortunate to have tremendous women leaders who challenge the norms and pave the way for progress, all while lifting up other women and girls to reach their full potential.

“As we look back at the past year, many of the most glaring challenges worldwide have had the greatest impact on women, girls and gender diverse people. It is important that we continue to challenge the norm, fight for the rights to safety, choice, participation in decision-making, and access to substantive equality for everyone, everywhere.

“I want to encourage all Islanders to celebrate the diverse voices and contributions women have made - and continue to make - in our lives by posting on social media and using #IWDPEI."
