Vote for your favourite seafood dish this month

The Best of Sea competition runs through June at 18 Island restaurants

Island chefs are demonstrating their culinary talents as part of a month-long celebration of Prince Edward Island seafood products.

The Best of Sea culinary competition runs through June and features 18 restaurants across the province - to vote for your favourite, visit bestofsea.com. Chefs are vying for $4,000 in prize money, and the 2018 Chic Chef of the Year earns the opportunity to compete in the Garland International Chef Challenge at September’s PEI International Shellfish Festival.

“This culinary promotion showcases the diversity of seafood products available here on Canada’s Food Island,” said Agriculture and Fisheries Minister Robert Henderson, whose department sponsors Best of Sea.

“Our food offerings are world class and prove why we are the Mighty Island – for a small place we do things better than places that are much larger. I encourage all Islanders and visitors to experience the skills of our chefs and the nutritious and tasty seafood dishes they prepare.”

There are 10 different seafood species being showcased this year. The promotion was developed to increase awareness and demand for Prince Edward Island seafood products and to create new culinary innovation.

The 2017 winner of the Chic Chef of the Year was Chef Javier Alarco of Water’s Edge at the Delta Hotel in Charlottetown.
