Cleantech on Prince Edward Island

Le contenu suivant est seulement disponible en anglais.

Tackling climate change now and in the future will require our best ideas, ingenuity and enterprise. We need viable, long-term solutions as we work to achieve our target of being the first province in Canada to reach net zero.

What is cleantech?

Cleantech is any process, product, or service that reduces negative environmental impacts through significant energy efficiency improvements, the sustainable use of resources, or environmental protection activities.

Accelerating cleantech growth on Prince Edward Island will:

  • Diversify our economic sectors through an emerging economic sector cluster;
  • Help companies across diverse sectors adopt clean technology, optimize waste, and use clean energy, supporting long-term competitiveness and sustainable economic growth;
  • Accelerate PEI’s path to net zero GHG emissions to help achieve our 2040 target.

Supports for cleantech

Cleantech Park

The Cleantech Park is PEI’s future home for clean tech innovation, business, energy and education.

This park will seek to grow PEI’s expertise and demonstrate ecological and economical practices as a baseline for sustainable futures.

The 60-acre business park to be developed in phases

Phase one: 15 acres.

  • Site preparation work to be completed in 2023.
  • Commercial lots available for business in 2023

Cleantech Learning and Innovation Centre

The Centre is a destination for students, industry and government to collaborate, learn and innovate.

The 44,000 sq. ft. building will house the Cleantech Academy, graduate pods and incubation space as well as collaborative space.

Cleantech Academy

The Academy will offer a Certificate and a Master’s Degree in Cleantech Leadership through a joint initiative of Holland College and the University of Prince Edward Island.

The PEI Energy Academy will extend applied training, research, and early-stage development in energy innovation.

The Cleantech Park will be connected to local and regional industry, education, and culture. Together, the Academy and the Innovation Centre will foster a community dedicated to innovation and collaboration by accommodating a range of education and enterprises in eco-centered research, development, and manufacturing.
