Have you or a family member recently received health care or services from Health PEI?
Would you like to help others get the best care possible?
Health PEI seeks volunteers with experience in a health system to serve as patient and family partners.
Input from patient and family partners helps Health PEI address patients’ concerns, tailor care to specific needs; ensure patients and their families feel safe; and improve the health care system.
As a patient and family partner, you might:
- share your story
- participate in quality improvement teams
- work on short-term quality improvement projects
- review patient education/information materials
- review policies from a patient /family perspective
- participate in Health PEI’s Patient /Family Advisory Committee
Commitment
Patient and family partners:
- serve for two-year terms with a possibility of extension
- attend up to eight meetings (in person or online) per year (mileage is reimbursed per Health PEI policy)
- meet with the Patient/Family Advisory Committee, if needed, two to four times per year
- sign a Confidentiality and Non-disclosure of Information Undertaking Agreement
- obtain a criminal record check and vulnerable sector check.
- comply with terms of reference, codes of conduct, confidentiality, and conflict resolution practices
Eligibility
Applicants must:
- have been a patient or a family member representing a patient in the PEI health system within the last five years, or longer if the experience involves continued care within the health system
- demonstrate a general understanding of Health PEI and have an interest in improving the quality of health care in the province
Applicants should also be:
- willing to actively participate in collaborative meetings
- comfortable speaking in a group setting
- able to actively listen and consider the needs and perspectives of other patients and families
- able to see the big picture
- committed to taking a constructive approach to quality improvement
